FAQs

Do you need a licence to hire a mini digger?

For private, domestic work on private land, there’s no legal licence requirement, and any competent operator can use one of our diggers. On a commercial or construction site it’s different: the operator will usually need a valid CPCS or NPORS card for that machine type. You’d only need a driving licence if you were taking the machine onto a public road. Not sure which applies to the job? Give us a shout and we’ll talk it through.

How deep can a mini digger dig?

It depends on the machine. The Kubota K008-5 digs to 1,720mm, the U17-5 reaches 2,290mm, and the U27-4 goes deepest at 2,820mm. Tell us how deep you need to go and we’ll match you to the right machine.

What size mini digger do I need?

It comes down to access and dig depth. The K008-5 squeezes through a 700mm gap for tight gardens and indoor work; the U17-5 gives you more reach and depth while still fitting most gateways; and the U27-4 is the one for foundations, deeper trenches and larger groundworks. Tell us the access width and how deep you need to dig, and we’ll match you to the right machine.

Can a mini digger be towed on a standard trailer?

Yes. At 2,590kg the largest machine in our range, the U27-4, is fully towable on a standard trailer under the 3.5 tonne limit, so there’s no need for an HGV licence or special transport to get it to site. The smaller K008-5 and U17-5 are lighter still.

How much does it cost to hire a mini digger?

Rates depend on the machine: the K008-5 is £45 + VAT (£54 inc. VAT) per day or £180 + VAT (£216 inc. VAT) for five days, the U17-5 is £55 + VAT (£66 inc. VAT) per day or £220 + VAT (£264 inc. VAT) for five days, and the U27-4 is £65 + VAT (£78 inc. VAT) per day or £260 + VAT (£312 inc. VAT) for five days. A five-day hire works out cheaper per day than five single days.
